The world of social networking and blogging are growing almost too fast to keep up with. One group of Denver women have taken their love for social media and compiled it into a large online community for local moms. It's called MileHighMamas.com and it's grown to be a huge success.
Stay-at-home mom, Amber Johnson started out blogging about her family. As an avid fan of social media, Amber saw the need for change.
"Today's moms who are really invested and excited about social media are into blogging, into twitter, into Facebook. They are into instant connections. What's what mile high mama's does,” she says. "I realized there really wasn't a central unifying online community for mom's in Colorado. For bloggers and moms who are really interested in social media."
Amber and 8 other Denver moms’ parlayed that concept into a business.
"It has fun entertaining blogs about being a mom. It’s really the real story about motherhood. Not the sugar coated stuff that you see," she adds.
The site incorporates Facebook, Twitter, tips on parenting, contests, deals and lots of giveaways.
"Right now we are giving away Avalanche tickets, Disney on ice, tickets to Loveland we're doing a big ski campaign with Colorado ski country" Amber says.
Assistant editor to MileHighMamas, JoAnn Rasmussen says, most importantly, it’s a place for women to come together. The site covers a range of issues mothers face every day.
“We can talk about really controversial subjects, Vaccinations and child hood discipline. We can talk about all these things,” says Joann. The communications that has opened up and the bonds that are built from this are amazing.
"A chance to connect with other moms and to learn what's going on in Denver," says Amber Johnson.
Over the last 6 months, Johnson says businesses started to take notice.
“Companies are coming to us and wanting to partner. Saying they we want to pitch this product we want you to review this product we'll give you free things.”
